I was diagnosed by my GP as having an inguinal hernia, she referred me to Mr Monkhouse. At our first meeting he immediately put me at ease by describing the two versions of surgery available, open or laparoscopic. He also explained the various possible side effects that can sometimes occur. As he specialises in laparoscopic surgery, I decided to take that route. I had my operation five weeks ago, and can honestly say that even immediately after the operation I felt no pain, just a slight awareness that something was different. Mr Monkhouse came to see me before and after the operation, again completely putting myself and my wife at ease. After the operation he telephoned me on at least two occasions, to check on my progress. By two weeks 'post op' I was back to my old life style, with the exception of heavy lifting of course. At four weeks I had my final consultion with him, the result a complete success. If you have read the other reviews of Mr Simon Monkhouse, I think you will be in no doubt of the high esteem in which his patients hold him. I am in complete agreement with them. He is a genuinely caring and cosiderate man, his skill as a surgeon is, in my opinion, of the very highest. If in the future I or my wife were ever in need of surgery within his field, we would ensure it was he who performed it. I would have absolutely no misgiving about recommending him to others. After experiencing severe cholecystitis in March/April 2014, Mr Monkhouse carried out the removal of my gall bladder by keyhole surgery in May 2014. The operation proved complicated and much longer than expected, the gall bladder having "welded" itself to various internal organs. Mr Monkhouse rang my wife late in the evening to update and reassure her. He kept us fully informed of my progress, visiting me in hospital early each morning and evening to check my progress with clear explanations of what had happened and what to expect. Within one week I was walking the dog two miles and a week later was signed off by Mr Monkhouse feeling fitter than I had for ages! I am now fully recovered and grateful for all he did for me. He keeps his patients well informed in a non patronising way using everyday language; his bedside manner is pleasant and business like. He made the experience as positive as is possible.

Mr Monkhouse carried out my bilateral hernia repair on the 10th June. Right from the first meeting with him I was impressed by his professionalism and sympathetic nature. Every question I asked was met with a patient, courteous response. The operation itself went smoothly, with very little pain and discomfort. The recovery was quick and problem free and I have been very happy with the result of the surgery. I would heartily recommend Mr Monkhouse and the team at Crawley General hospital to anyone considering hernia repair surgery.

Having had an inguinal hernia repair some 4 weeks ago by Simon Monkhouse, I would have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending Simon and his team to anyone who is considering having the repair. I managed to drive within two days, and went back to work in the second week after the operation. Although there is some discomfort for the first week the recovery time proved to be far speedier than I had ever anticipated. Simon thanks for a job well done, and please thank the staff involved in the repair, as they all reflected your professionalism.
